Society staff put walking boots on

-

STAFF members and their families and friends from Earl Shilton Building Society have taken part in a sponsored walk for charity supporting people with Angelman Syndrome.

The event, which saw participants walk five and a half miles, starting and finishing at the Black Horse pub in Market Bosworth, was organised to raise funds for Angelman UK, the society’s charity of the year or 2018/2019.

Through their efforts, the charity managed to raise a total of £300 for the cause.

Comprised entirely of volunteers, many of who are parents or relatives of children or adults living with Angelman Syn- drome, Angelman UK works to provide support and improve services to combat the effects that the condition has on dayto-day life.

First identified in 1965, Angelman Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that causes severe learning difficulties and is characterised by a range of symptoms such as speech impairment, problems with movement and balance and happy and excitable behaviour.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “We are extremely grateful to the Society’s staff and families for raising money on our behalf.

“As a small charity, all of our funding comes from events like these and every penny raised contributes in some way to helping support our families. It really does make a huge difference.”

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of Esbs, said: “It is always fantastic to see our team getting behind such worthy causes and I would like to congratulate them on the amount raised.

“The work that Angelman UK does really is invaluable to supporting those affected by Angelman Syndrome and we hope the donation will go some way to helping them improve their services.”

The building society support good causes through their In The Community fund and any local groups based in the LE, CV9 to 13 and DE11 to 15 postcode areas can be nominated to benefit from the scheme.
