A BIG-hearted young boy got to play with one of the children his charity work helps keep entertained.

Benjamin Clark, 8, from Peckleton, had a chance to meet fiveyear-old Oscar, who is in the last 12 months of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Ben has been raising thousands of pounds to buy toys for poorly children at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Rainbows Hospice, where Oscar has been having his treatment.

Go karting enthusiast Ben goes round at race meetings and collects microfibre cloths used by engineers to clean the motors, which he cleans and sells on to raise funds.

Oscar’s dad Edward Sutton, 34, got in touch with Ben to thank him for his work and all the happiness he is bringing into the lives of poorly children.

They were able to arrange for the two youngsters to meet up.

There was a post about the meet up on the Benjamin Clark Racing Facebook page.

It said: “After the wonderful message from Ed about his boy Oscar, things just got even better.

“Ben and Oscar got to meet each other and have a little play together. “It was so heartwarming. “We heard Oscar’s story and began to realise the full impact that the generosity of people makes.

“Oscar is a buoyant, bright and happy boy, you would never know the journey he has been on.

“This is testament to his wonderful parents that have to sacrifice everything to support and care for him during his treatment.

“This treatment has gone on for the last two years during which time there have been some very very dark moments for the family.

“Charity work helps to enable families in this situation to hold it all together.

“The various gifts and help out there goes a long way to alleviate the pressure caused by not being able to work full time due to caring and hospital regimes.”

It continued: “This all really matters. It could be any one of us in their shoes. Please keep supporting.”

Oscar’s family also presented Ben with two large boxes with 160 microfibre cloths for Ben to sell on.

Ben made a delivery of toys to Children’s Cancer Ward 27 at Leicester Royal Infirmary in December 2018.

Before that he dropped off £700 worth of toys at Rainbow’s Hospice and he gave a trolley load of items to children’s Ward 12 at Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI).
