Ladies end the year with win

HINCKLEY A had their final match of 2018 against Copsewood C.

Freezing conditions didn’t deter the Hinckley team and they took the initial lead, also preventing any goals from the opposition for the first 5 minutes of the quarter ensuring a first quarter lead of 6 goals. Hinckley continued to push hard and secure the goals scoring 13 goals in the second quarter whilst defensive duo Emma Draycott and Holly Hemsley continued to keep the Copsewood goals out, f inishing at half time with a 24-11 lead. The second half saw Hinckley’s play slip which allowed Copsewood back into the game drawing the third quarter scoring 7 goals a piece. Great team work and play down court ensured Hinckley maintained their lead finishing the year with a 39-27 win. Player of the match went to Ashleigh Oakes at Centre

Hinckley Bs took to the court to battle both storm Deidre and table-topping Copeswood on Saturday. Despite the weather and missing their GS through injury and having to send home their GK during the warm up through illness, Hinckley’s side began the game confidentl­y in high spirits, and after a close first quarter were drawing with the opposition. The match continued into the second quarter with intercepti­ons from both sides, but Copeswoods high shooting accuracy put them slightly ahead by four goals. In the second half of the game, the storm strengthen­ed and both teams had to battle high winds and cutting sleet. As the ball and court became slippery, the number of goals being scored slowed down with an increased number of balls being dropped and players tripping up. Hinckley continued to battle trough however and when the final whistle was finally blown the game ended at 28-37 to Copeswood. In true sportsman spirit, Copeswood awarded the entire Hinckley team with Player of the Match due to everyone’s dedication and determinat­ion to continue playing.

Hinckley C team were missing two injured players in their game against Synergy.

Bitterly cold weather drove the Cs to attack from the start leading by 5 in the first quarter. Second quarter the lead increased by 7. Half time saw changes in the opposition players which Hinckley took advantage of. Defenders Heather and Leanne turned over numerous play to drive the ball up court through Niamh, Liz and Susan towards the shooters. Shooters Lucy and Fran were on form and continued in the 3rd and 4th quarter popping shots making a bigger gap in the score for the Cs. Final score 25-47 with a much needed win for the Cs.

Player of the match went to Fran for her fabulous on target shooting and movement in the shooting circle.

A wet and windy Saturday afternoon saw the D team face Godiva C at home. A well contended first quarter with both teams matching each other goal for goal with some intelligen­t play from both teams the quarterend­ed 10 goals all.

Hinckley made a change to the team, and as the wind picked up. Passes in the second quarter became more inaccurate making it difficult for both sides to score and possession remained in the centre court with neither shooting end being able to finish.

At half time the score was 14-13 in Godiva’s favour.

After a half time discussion and further team changes, despite the rain both teams continued fighting for ball which lead to a difficult third quarter and Godiva C took the lead by a further 3 goals.

Hinckley changed their attack again and in the last quarter their game play improved with more consistent and excellent passes. Communicat­ion around the court improved with more determinat­ion which lead to Hinckley winning the last quarter and taking the lead. Final score 28-26 in Hinckley’s favour, with player of the match going to Lucy Ibbetson playing GA, GD and GS.

A great team effort all round taking the Ds to their first win of the season.
