AS if it wasn’t exciting enough that Madagascar - The Musical is coming to Leicester, it has now been announced that it will star X-Factor star Matt Terry.

The 2016 winner is appearing as Alex the Lion in the UK tour, which is already under way.

It has now been confirmed that he will be staying in role as the tour continues into the new year, with performances at Leicester Haymarket from March 5 to 9.

Since winning the ITV show, Matt has been recording music all over the world. After a top three hit with the Ed Sheeran-penned winner’s single When Christmas Comes Around, he released his debut album, Trouble, in November 2017.

His first single from the album, Sucker For You, has had nearly 60 million streams on Spotify.

He also featured on Enrique Iglesias’ single, Subeme La Radio, alongside Sean Paul.

Matt’s role in Madagascar has been hailed as a triumphant debut theatre performance, receiving five-star reviews across the tour.

Matt said: “I’m having such an amazing time touring in Madagascar - The Musical, the audiences have been fantastic and I’m so excited to be staying with the company to tour into 2019.

“The show brings together everything you will know and love from the Dreamworks film with an immense score and amazing sets, costumes and puppets.

“It’s an awesome night out for the whole family.”

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – The Musical follows all of your favourite cracka-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

The wacky adventure is brought to life by Selladoor Family, the producers behind James And The Giant Peach, Seussical and The Owl And The Pussycat and Hartshorn – Hook, producers of the Olivier Award winning Rotterdam, Murder Ballad, Urinetown and American Idiot.

Tickets are priced from £27.50.
