Food­bank help by pop­u­lar take­away

A CHIP shop in Bar­well has pro­vided more than 400 free hot meals for fam­i­lies in need.

Chris’s Fish and Chips has been giv­ing out Food­bank vouch­ers for peo­ple in the area to come and get a hot meal and has so far helped more than 120 fam­i­lies.

The chip shop said in a post on its Face­book page: “This is our Christ­mas present to our local com­mu­nity and glad to help make Christ­mas eas­ier for those that are strug­gling at this time of year.

“This our gift and fully funded by us, out of our own pocket, and the thanks we have got from peo­ple us­ing this has been to­tally hum­bling.”

The chip shop part­nered with Hinck­ley Food­bank to launch the project.

The vouch­ers are valid for a week at a time, with a set menu for peo­ple to choose from.

They will be lim­ited to those within a two-mile ra­dius of the shop, or for oth­ers who can get ac­cess to the shop.
