Foodbank help by popular takeaway
A CHIP shop in Barwell has provided more than 400 free hot meals for families in need.
Chris’s Fish and Chips has been giving out Foodbank vouchers for people in the area to come and get a hot meal and has so far helped more than 120 families.
The chip shop said in a post on its Facebook page: “This is our Christmas present to our local community and glad to help make Christmas easier for those that are struggling at this time of year.
“This our gift and fully funded by us, out of our own pocket, and the thanks we have got from people using this has been totally humbling.”
The chip shop partnered with Hinckley Foodbank to launch the project.
The vouchers are valid for a week at a time, with a set menu for people to choose from.
They will be limited to those within a two-mile radius of the shop, or for others who can get access to the shop.
