Older people are urged to have flu jab this winter
OLDER people are encouraged to get the winter flu vaccination if they have not already done so.
Flu can cause severe illness and lifethreatening health complications among vulnerable groups, including older people, pregnant women and people with an underlying health condition.
Certain people are more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
Health professionals and social care workers are also encouraged to get the flu jab because they come into contact with vulnerable people on a daily basis.
Rutland county councillor Alan Walters said: “The flu vaccine is available free of charge on the NHS for people who are at greatest risk of falling ill. This is to help protect them against catching flu and developing serious complications.
“You should get the flu vaccine if you’re aged 65 or over, have a pre-existing medical condition or are being supported in a residential care home.” For more details, visit: nhs.uk/staywell
