Good causes get a share of Co-op cash

-

GOOD causes in the Hinckley area had a share of over £1,000 in profits from the Heart of England Co-operative Society.

Hinckley and District Association for the Disabled, Barlestone Parish Council, Market Bosworth Festival and Market Bosworth Society, and Helen Guy Dance Academy in Broughton Astley each had a share.

The funds come from the latest round of donations from the Helping Hearts Awards Scheme, a community chest sharing society profits to boost the lives or quality of life of residents across its trading area. The groups were among scores of organisations across Coventry, Warwickshire, South Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to get a share of almost £20,000 given out by the society over the past six months.

Barlestone Parish Council has used its £300 towards a defibrillator for the village community.

Helen Guy Dance Academy put its £100 towards goods to raise funds for the students to dance at Disneyland Paris, while Market Bosworth Festival organisers used their £350 towards the 16th annual event.

Ali Kurji, chief executive of the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “As always our Helping Hearts Awards Scheme has attracted applications from a fantastic variety of community causes from Hinckley and the surrounding area over the past six months.

“Helping Hearts is a fantastic way for local non-profit organisations to top up their funds for projects that will help improve the lives or quality of life for residents from all walks of life in their local communities.”

The Society is calling for anyone who knows of a charity or community group which could use extra funding – from a church or school, to a junior football team, amateur theatre group or friendship group – to get in touch.

Awards range from £10 to £1,000 and non-profit making organisations are able to re-apply for financial help every 12 months.
