Store staff say sales are up by 500% since move

-

A DISCOUNT sofa shop reported rocketing sales during its first Christmas since moving to Hinckley.

Cut Price Suites said it defied the usual lull in sales in the weeks leading up to the big day as people flocked to its new Castle Street store.

Owner Roger Hancock said the store is enjoying fives times the sales it used to make when it was based in Leicester.

He said: “We were expecting sales to drop compared to Leicester but they have gone up a lot. “We can’t keep up. “Everyone else I know in the business says the high street is dead. I don’t know why we are doing so well. “Hinckley bucks the trend.” The shop traded for 30 years in Churchgate, Leicester, before moving its headquarters to the former Co-op building on Castle Street.

Mr Hancock said the management is re-shaping the store to cope with how busy things are.

He said: “We are hoping to extend the warehouse because we just can’t hold enough stock.

“There’s no hard and fast formula. I’m amazed with the things we have sold.”

The store opened in February 2018 and sells a wide range of branded and designer sofas, beds and bedroom furniture, sofa beds and chairs, all at knock-down prices.

Steve Wegerif of Hinckley BID said that many shops in the town centre reported steady sales over the Christmas period compared with previous years.

The BID ran a Santa’s Grotto in the Britannia Centre themed around Beauty and the Beast which proved popular with families, with many giving good feedback about the event.

Marmalade Meringue enjoyed strong sales and Gaynor Johnson, owner of Johnsons lingerie shop, said sales remained steady over the festive period.
