Guildhall, Leicester, Thurs, Jan 24. An evening of energetic music and traditiona­l English dancing. You’ll have the chance to dosey doe the night away in the Guildhall’s atmospheri­c Great Hall, enjoy a real fire and dram whiskey to keep you warm. The evening will feature ceilidh band 3Around3. Curve, Leicester, Fri, Jan 25 and Sat, Jan 26. Get ready to experience this brilliant film in the greatest way possible – with lyrics on the screen so you can join in as loud and proud as you want! The live host will teach everyone a unique set of dance moves, show you how to use interactiv­e prop bags, and also get you to refine your cheers, your boos and even a few wolf whistles. National Space Centre, Leicester, Sat, Jan 26 and Sun Jan 27. Join the National Space Centre for a fun family weekend which looks at the fact behind the fiction of Doctor Who. There will be a jampacked schedule of workshops, competitio­ns, challenges, talks, exhibition­s and lots of your favourite terrifying foes to encounter. Special guests have yet to be announced. 2Funky Music Cafe, Leicester, Sat, Jan 26. Awardwinni­ng Big Fish Little Fish are returning to Leicester with a Leicester, City of Champions- themed family rave, featuring local champion DJ SS. The family rave will include a multi-sensory dance floor, club visuals, bubble machines, glitter cannons and a giant parachute dance to help to create the atmosphere of a real rave. various venues, Feb 6-24. The city’s annual festival of mirth and merriment is bringing us some incredible acts next month. Running from February 6 to 24, the 26th annual event will feature a record number of shows and events at 70 venues. Acts include Jason Manford, Jo Brand, Nish Kumar, Russell Howard, Tom Rosenthal and Lost Voice Guy, and events include the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competitio­n. Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse Eaves, Fri, March 8. The year is 1899, the notorious gang known as the Peaky Blinders have been spreading across the slums of Birmingham for near on a decade. When one of their own is murdered, how far with they go to bring the killer to justice? Are you brave enough to try and infiltrate the gang and help solve the murder? Begins 7pm. Athena, Leicester, Sat, April 6. After a sellout tour in 2017, the UK’s biggest and original Prosecco festival is coming back to Leicester. There will be more than 40 types of Prosecco, Cava, pink fizz, and Prosecco cocktails. Tickets from £12.50 for standard admission, including a welcome glass of Prosecco, branded wristband and branded Prosecco flute to take home.

Melton Livestock Market, Sat, April 4 and Sun, April 5. Fans of cheese will be in their element at this fantastic food event, featuring a full programme of talks, tastings and demonstrat­ions from industry experts. Besides cheese, you can expect wine, cakes, beer, chutneys, and Melton Mowbray’s famous pork pies. Ticket prices yet to be announced.

De Montfort Hall, Leicester, Thur, April 11. One of the world’s greatest classical singers, Alfie Boe, is bringing his 2019 tour to Leicester. Alfie is one of the best-loved vocalists of his generation and a hugely successful, multiplati­num selling artist. Begins 7pm. Tickets from £36.50.

De Montfort Hall, Leicester, April 17-21. Fans of the CBBC show (that includes us!) will love the chance to see not one but two Horrible Histories live shows. Both the Terrible Tudors and the Awful Egyptians are coming to De Montfort Hall, promising to thrill you and your children, with shows featuring actors and 3D special effects. Tickets from £18 adults.

Great Central Railway, Quorn and Woodhouse, April 19-22. Step back in time with this country fayre, featuring gallopers and a big wheel, traction engines, craft stalls, vintage cars, commercial­s and tractors. There will also be a real ale tent with live music on Friday and Saturday. Ticket prices yet to be announced.

Cattows Farm, Heather- May 31- June 3. The One and Only singer is coming to Leicesters­hire for a weekend – and you’re invited to spend it with him! Guests at the event, hosted by Back to the 80s and 90s Festival, will be able to enjoy a full-on celebratio­n of all things Chesney, including meet and greets with the star. It will also feature special guest, former Fun House presenter Pat Sharp.
