Nominate inspiring youngsters for award

PEOPLE across the region are being encouraged to nominate inspiring young people from their communitie­s for this year’s annual Lord-Lieutenant’s Award.

Each year, the Lord Lieutenant celebrates the achievemen­ts of young people across the city and county.

The award is open to all 12 to 19-year-olds and nomination­s can be made by other young people, their school, parent or carer, as well as any other agency or individual.

This year’s categories celebrate the very best examples of effort and achievemen­t, people can nominate youngsters for Young Braveheart, Young Volunteer, Young Sportspers­on and Young Artist.

Lord-Lieutenant of Leicesters­hire, Michael Kapur OBE, said: “I am delighted to continue the Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards and to formally open the nomination­s for the 2019 awards.

“This is my first year of involvemen­t and I am really looking forward to hearing about the remarkable efforts of our amazing young people and their outstandin­g endeavours.

“As ever, the award categories highlight bravery, creativity, strength of spirit and selflessne­ss – which can inspire us all in Leicester and Leicesters­hire.

“In my short time as Lord-Lieutenant I have had the privilege of meeting so many fantastic young people and so I’m convinced that competitio­n will be stronger than ever.”

The finalists and their parents will be invited to a special red carpet awards evening and dinner which will be held in May next year.

Kristiana Groza, the Young Volunteer of the Year category winner who was named Young Person of the Year 2018, said: “I was amazed and grateful to be recognised with the award. Volunteeri­ng is really good for young people and opens up a world of opportunit­ies.”

The closing date for this year’s nomination­s is February 15, 2019.
