Residents are given a festive hand by college students

-

TWELVE residents of Lawrence House received Christmas goodie bags thanks to the generosity of John Cleveland Sixth Form centre students.

The scheme has been running for a number of years and is now an annual event where students provide thoughtful gifts with each tutor group choosing a male or female to buy for the 12 residents.

Paula Tomkins, John Cleveland Sixth Form administrator and coordinator of the Lawrence House Christmas Appeal, said: “It has been really heart-warming to see them filling the bags with items ranging from chocolate, packets of biscuits, tins of food and toiletries and clothing to help provide them with a few little luxuries over the Christmas period.”

She added: “As the young people in the house are between 12 and 25-years-old, it is a cause particularly close to our student’s hearts. They have thought about what it must be like to be in someone else’s shoes and wanted to give them a goodie bag full of treats to let them know they are in our thoughts, especially at this time of the year.”

The bags that the gifts were placed in were donated by Marmalade Meringue gift shop on Hinckley’s Castle Street and the school would like to pass on their thanks for sup- porting the great cause once again.

Lisa Bexton from the Hinckley Homeless Group, said: “We are most grateful for all of the support we have received from the school throughout the year and we would like to thank all of the students and families that ran the project and donated gifts.”
