Support on offer for quitting fags

-

SMOKERS are being urged to make 2019 the year they quit for good, with support from local stop smoking service QuitReady.

Since the service began two years ago, QuitReady has supported more than 2,000 Leicestershire residents to stub out the habit.

Smokers who wish to sign-up to the free service will receive 12 weeks of one-to-one support with a designated stop smoking advisor and get the the option to choose a quit aid, which range from nicotine patches to stop smoking medication.

The service also provides a free E-Cigarette starter kit, including follow on nicotine liquids for the full 12 week programme.

Councillor Pam Posnett, Leicestershire County Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Sadly, smoking is still one of the leading causes of premature death in Leicestershire. So if your new year’s resolution is to get fitter and improve your health, quitting smoking is a great place to start.

“We hope that people across county will take advantage of the free support QuitReady has on offer and use the New Year as an opportunity to develop healthy habits that will last a life- time.”

Evidence shows that smokers are four times more likely to quit with the service’s support, than with willpower alone.
