HINCKLEY Under 15 kicked off the new year with a win over Oakham 27-0.

Hinckley kicked off the first of three 20 minute periods and showed their intent with a foray of opening attacks.

Hinckley were dominant in the opening exchanges and scored their first try from a line out 10m from Oakham’s line. Burton and Jacques took the ball forward initially before A. Whittingham drove over from 5m out to ease some of the tension, giving Hinckley a deserved 5-0 lead.

Soon after, Hinckley were on the attack and the black and ambers retained possession effortlessly and fed the ball out to Golding who ran a splendid line, cutting through the upper class defence with ease to score under the posts. Allen’s conversion increased Hinckley’s lead to 12-0.

Hinckley extended their lead as Wainde fed the ball to Allen who made a brilliant break before off-loading to Moore in support who darted into the 22. His perfectly timed pass found Smith on the wing who breezed over for a stunning score, extending Hinckley’s lead to 17-0 as the whistle blew for the end of the first third.

Into the second perdiod, Allen to send one of his trademark booming kicks downfield. Hinckley’s marauding pack set up a driving maul from the resulting line-out and ploughed over the line for their fourth try, Burton emerging with the ball, taking the score to 22-0.

Hinckley came close to try number five as the second third drew to a close, Jacques crashing over the halfway line with a typically thunderous run, but the ball was spilled in the tackle to end the period.

Following an Oakham infringement, Hinckley opted for a scrum close to the line knowing their pack had the upper hand. The ball was fizzed out wide to Dewfield who was held up on the line, but Barnes was on hand to pick up and drive over for the black and ambers’ long awaited fifth try, increasing their lead to an unassailable 27-0.

Hinckley were keen to rub salt into Oakham’s wounds with a sixth try, initiating their last offensive of the game through breaks by Buckler, Wainde, Golding, Giles, Underwood and Barnes, who was held up on the line. But Oakham cleared from the resulting scrum to end the game, final score Hinckley 27-0 Oakham.
