The Goons are back in form

-

BARLESTONE A have lost ground in Division One of the Table Tennis League, in their recent matches they defeated Queen’s Mira by 7 sets to 3. Adam Pettitt winning his three for Barlestone whilst Dan Hogan took two wins for Mira. In their next match they beat Cat H by 9 sets to 1, Pettitt again being man of the match.

Meanwhile last season’s champions Goons have come back to form collecting a 7 sets to 3 win over GWB and then running up by 10 sets to nil wins over G Ward D and Queen’s Mira to go top of the table with a three point lead over Barlestone A.

G Ward A have slowly climbed the table after a slow start and their match with another title contender Cat A was a real classic. No fewer than seven sets went to either four or five games. Man of the man was Rhys Emery winning his three for Cat A, whilst Andy Spring, Nick Raynor and Jason Essex all won two each for G Ward A. Spare a thought for Cat’s Pete Jamieson who came close to two victories but in the end lost all three. The final score GWA 6 –Cat A 4. This win for the Barwell side sees them in third place just a few points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Cat A came back to form with a good win in their next match over Barlestone B the final score being 10 sets to nil. Barlestone B had a good victory over Cat H by 9 sets to 1.

G Ward D managed a creditable draw with Cat B despite only fielding two players. Young Edward Brown hit his best form of the season gaining a fine maximum and team-mate Eileen Shaler collected two good wins for the draw. They came close again in the next match just losing by 6 sets to 4 to their own B team. Neil Matthams (GWB) won all three but with the Matt & Ollie Wynne both winning a set each for the D team and Brown collecting two more good wins. G Ward D currently third from bottom but now appear safe with 43 points

Bottom spot now appears to lie between Barlestone B on 31pts currently and Cat H on just 23 points
