JOHN Varley scored a convincing win in Higham Lanes Thursday Open match. Drawn on peg 9, John used “bomb and corn” tactics to land 82lb 11ozs of carp to double figures. Dave Massey finished second, along way behind with a 38lb 6oz catch while Dave Hurlston came third with 26lb 15ozs.

Lychgate Fisheries mid week Open produced some good catches with inform Ian Shirley winning with 74lb. Drawn on peg 38 Ian pole fished pellet to catch quality bream and carp. Chris Duffy had to settle for second place with a more than respectabl­e 64lb 2oz catch. Chris again caught carp and bream on pole fished bread punch from peg 47. Michael Harding caught mainly bream with just a couple of carp on pole fished maggot to take third place with 36lb 14ozs.

Barwell’s John Gamble needed just two fish, a superb 1lb 15oz perch and a small pike, to win Shackersto­nes Open match. Fished along the Populars length John caught both fish on pole fished worm to weigh 4lb 8ozs. Phil Hicks weighed 2lb 10ozs of small roach taken on bread punch to finish second while Kevin Cooper also fished bread punch to take third place with 1lb 9oz of roach.

Tony Simonetti made the most of the last thirty minutes to win Mayne’s Lakes mid week Open. After catching steadily through out the match and excellent finish gave him the honours with a 24lb 13oz catch, all caught on pole fished maggot presented in the deeper water down the “track” ! Result; Pool One, winner; Alan Wilson 12lb 12ozs, peg 36. Pool Two, winner; Tony Simonetti, peg 22.

Saturday’s Higham Lane Open was won by Alan Grewcock with a 43lb 9oz catch from peg 3. Paul Hoosan finished second from peg 23 with a level 23lb while John Varley came third with 22lb 9ozs.

Danny Ross took the honours in Brookfield’s Open match at Stoke Golding. Drawn on peg 1 Danny pole fished pellet to land 26lb 8ozs of carp. Alby Behl finished second from peg 15 with a 17lb 2oz catch. John Pegg came third with 15lb 1ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have Open matches every Thursday and Saturday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches every Saturday and Sunday. Draw 9.15am.

Shackersto­ne have an Open match this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.
