Strong show from Bosworth

-

AFTER recent results this fixture appeared to the pessimists to be another big defeat on the cards.

Olney are at the top of league and only having lost one game all season against a Market Bosworth side who were looking for their first win since early December. The only positives at the kick off were news of a full turn out at mid week training and an impressive warm up session from the Bosworth side.

What a surprise to those pessimists when from the kick off Bosworth took control of the game pinning Olney down in their half for a long period. Players were deemed to be in front of the kicker when Olney kicked clear of their line and so enabled Rich Harris to open the scoring for Bosworth on five minutes.

Unfortunately Bosworth were caught off-guard straight from the restart, as has happened so often recently, and allowed Olney to run in a simple try in the corner. The conversion was too far out for the kick to be successful. Bosworth regrouped and mounted another attack forcing a lineout fifteen metres out, loosing possession but causing the Olney defence to crumble and a turnover ball came to the hands of the Bosworth hooker, Chris Peckham, who dived over for a wellearned try.

This time Harris failed to convert. Bosworth kept up the pressure and apart from their try Olney did not get into the Bosworth half for the first twenty minutes of the match and due to excellent play from a rejuvenated Bosworth side the visitors were unable to make any headway.

Bosworth were now playing with a confidence not seen from the Cadeby Lane side for a long time, tackling like demons, making passes count and getting very close to scoring another try or two but never quite making it.

Olney however spent the rest of the half on the back foot defending the onslaught and never looking like league leaders.

At the half way stage Bosworth were winning by eight points to five. The second half started much the same as the first with Bosworth getting close to the opposition line only for Olney to get possession and run the whole length of the pitch to be stopped short and play reversed to the other end of the pitch.
