Young star set to kick the new season off in style

-

A series of lunchtime concerts at Hinckley’s Parish Church is to begin with two local musicians taking centre stage.

Sebastian Carrington is a 12 year old boy from Hinckley who has become a celebrity since appearing on ‘The Voice Kids UK’ broadcast on national TV in 2017 - wowing one of the show’s judges Will.i.am.

Sebastian became the youngest boy treble to gain a distinction at ABRSM diploma level in singing aged eleven. He enjoys singing as a chorister at Coventry Cathedral, singing with some famous names such as Aled Jones and has sung for Royalty.

The youngster passed grade 8 on the piano aged nine, grade 8 in singing aged ten, grade 8 music theory aged eleven and grade 8 on the organ aged twelve, sitting the exam at Coventry Cathedral, gaining a distinction.

Sebastian is on the music team of the parish churches in Broughton Astley, Stoney Stanton and Croft, where he can regularly be heard playing the organ and singing.

He has performed at Buckingham Palace and in many concerts and festivals around the Midlands and in his spare time Sebastian loves to play Minecraft and Terraria.

Accompanist Andrew McMillan also lives in Hinckley and started playing keyboards from the age of seven, first a harmonium, then the piano and much later in life the organ. The organ is now his main instrument and he plays in the same parish churches as Sebastian.

For the last nine years Andrew has enjoyed singing with the Coventry Cathedral Chorus, a mixed choir of about 75 people, presenting concerts both in the cathedral and elsewhere.

Until retirement Andrew’s professional career was in computer programming.

Hosted by St Mary’s Arts (SMARTS) the first concert in the Spring season of lunchtime concerts is at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday February 6 starting at 1pm and will last for less than an hour.

Sebastian’s programme will include well-known vocal solos by Purcell, Bach, Handel, Schubert and Gershwin. He will also play a piano sonata by Beethoven.

Listeners are invited to bring a packed lunch to eat before or after the concert and buy drinks from the church coffee bar

Admission on the door is £4 for adults and £1 for students and children.

Season tickets for the four Spring season concerts will be available for £14. Cards listing details of these concerts are available at the church.

SMARTS Chairman says he encourages local people to come to the concert and support Sebastian.

They said: “He has a wonderful talent as a singer, pianist and outstanding musician, all this at such a young age!

“Sebastian’s new CD ‘The Voice of Joy’ will be on sale at the church after the concert.”
