Easy win for Hinckley RFC Under 15s
HINCKLEY U15s produced another scintillating performance in this comfortable away win at in-form Stone RFC.
Hinckley kicked off on a cold, damp and mucky pitch and immediately went on the offensive allowing Burton to pile over for the opening score.
Soon after, Hinckley’s rampant pack drove the ball forward, Underwood leading the charge, before Allen’s fantastically timed pass found Golding at pace who blasted over the try-line. Allen’s conversion increased Hinckley’s advantage to 0-12.
Hinckley’s third try was a magnifi- cent team effort as Barnes powered over the line taking the score to 0-17.
Stone reducing the deficit to 5-17 by half-time.
After the break, Dewfield stole the ball superbly at a ruck and popped the ball to McManus who took Hinckley back into Stone’s half with a powerful run. Jacques was in support to take the final pass and bulldoze through the opposition back-line for a fantastic try, converted by Allen to increase Hinckley’s lead to 5-24.
Hinckley’s fifth try was another brilliant team effort allowing Jacques to pick up and dive over for his second score, extending the visitors’ advantage to 5-29.
Hinckley, now dominant and controlling the game superbly in the poor conditions, were soon on the scoreboard again. Burton caught the re-start and hurtled into Stone’s 22, combining brilliantly with Drakeford who eventually darted over taking the score to 5-34.
More good work from Hinckley allowed Drakeford to gather the ball and barrel over for his second try of the match, which he subsequently converted, extending Hinckley’s lead to 5-41.
Hinckley’s eighth and final try was probably the pick of the bunch. Hinck- ley turned over the ball through some ferocious tackling. Barnes, Hutton and Toon all made good ground with solid runs as the forwards marched into enemy territory, creating space for the backs to demonstrate their skills as Allen and A. Whittingham danced up to Stone’s 10m line. Burton took a crash ball and bullocked up to the try-line, but he was held up by the home side’s dogged defence. Hinckley maintained possession and the ball was fizzed out wide left to find Toon, not in his usual position, to dart over for a terrific score to end the game, final score Stone 5 – 46 Hinckley.
