Shirley gets back to winning ways as the cold weather hits

-

ON a cold, wet and miserable Wednesday, Ian Shirley got back to winning ways in Lychgate Fisheries midweek Open.

Drawn on peg 38, Ian caught two big carp and some bream to finish with a 32lb 14oz winning catch. Robin Duffy finished second with a 24lb 11oz catch from peg 43 while John Lavender weighed 17lb 8ozs of bream to take third place.

On their never ending search to find some fish, Shackerstone’s Open match was pegged along the Woodside length. Phil Hicks included a 12oz bream in his winning 1lb 4oz catch. Pete Billington had a level 1lb of small roach and perch to take second place while Geoff Taylor made a similar catch weighing 14ozs to finish third.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open was won by fishery expert Dave Hurlston who used “bomb and corn” tactics on peg 22 to catch 33lb 9ozs. Andy Findlay came second with 24lb 11ozs. Kev Milne finished third with 18lb 9ozs. It was hard work for those fishing Saturday’s Open. With ice in the margins Andy Findlay needed just 26lb to take the honours from peg 9. John Varley weighed 18lb 9ozs to take second place with Dave Hurlston finishing third with 16lb 11ozs.
