Barwell side earn draw despite having just two players

IN Division Two of the Table Tennis League Hit ’n’ Hope B took on G Ward F at their Leicester Road base in what turned out to be a very tight affair. The Barwell side only had two players due to illness but put up a brave fight to earn a creditable draw.

Roger Hill (GWF) won all three of his games, although Alan Morris (HNHB) took him to five games before succumbing 11-4 in the fifth. James Walker (GWF) worked hard going down 11-7 in the fifth to Morris but defeated Chris Taylor (H ‘n’ H B) in another five game match 11-6 in the final game. GW F took the doubles to secure a draw.

Cat E showed real determinat­ion when they took on Hit ‘n ‘ Hope A, racing into a two set to nil lead only to be pegged back and overtaken in a close fixture by the Hinckley side. All but one set went to either four or five games but Hit ‘n ‘Hope A finally ran our winners by 7 sets to 3. Man of the match was Bryan Moylan winning his three. In their next fixture they had stiffer opposition in league leaders Cat D who ran out winners by 7 sets to 3. Chris Sherwin winning all his games for Cat D.

In another tight match the two Cat sides F & G fought out a close match for local bragging rights. The sides sit next to each other in the league table so this was a crucial match for both teams. After an epic struggle Cat F ran out winners by 6 sets to 4. Kevin Edwards winning his three for Cat G.

G Ward F took on bottom club Market Bosworth 2 and duly won by 10 sets to nil. Leanna Bancroft being unlucky losing two of her three matches to close scores in the fifth game. Man of the match was James Walker (GWF).

GWC continued their recent good form with an 8 sets to 2 victory over Hit ‘ n’ Hope B. Dick Jenkins (GWC) taking his three while Alan Morris took two for the visitors.

The league table sees Cat D well out in front with 110 pts from 13 games, in second spot are GWC on 88 points from the same number of games and in third place are Market Bosworth 1 with 84 points.
