A VACANT sheltered accommodation scheme in Market Bosworth will be demolished and a new one built in its place.

Plans were unanimously approved by the planning committee at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to knock down Ambion Court on Southfield Way.

It will be replaced with a complex of 24 single-bedroom flats and three single-bedroom bungalow.

The current complex dates back to the 70s and is made up of 27 residences.

The proposal would increase the site’s 11 car parking spaces to 19 spaces, with 16 for the flats and three for the bungalows.

A design statement filed with the application said: “The site is a good shape for development, with no awkward corners and with limited change in levels.

“Access from the highway is limited by the location of adjacent junctions and for this reason the main access to the flats is in the same location as the current access.

“Access to the bungalows has been agreed off Southfield Way, but only if there is turning within the site to ensure cars will leave the site in a forward direction.”

Communal lengths were minimum in corridor kept to a the plans with glazed seating area at the end of the building to allow “more easy social interaction”.

The complex would include a large mobility scooter store, while many of the ground floor flats would have a dedicated patio area with power supply, that could be used as a future store if needed.

Communal spaces would include a library area with shelving, a TV lounge, sun room and dining room.

Solar panels would be installed on the main building’s roof and an electric heating system may be fitted as the building will be highly insulated.
