Driver dies after BMW and lorry collide on M1
Two serious crashes on the M1 on Friday
A MAN has died after a crash between a car and lorry on the M1.
The driver of the car – a silver BMW X3 – was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on the southbound carriageway of the M1.
The collision happened just before 7am near junction 20, for Lutterworth on Friday last week.
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from the East Midlands Ambulance Service. The driver of the car, a man, died at the scene.”
The southbound carriageway of the motorway was closed between Junctions 20 and 19, the A14 intersection at Catthorpe.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The road remained closed while officers carried out inquiries.
“While our investigation is in its early stages, I would like to ask anyone travelling on the M1 at 7am yesterday to come forward.
“If you have a dashcam installed in your vehicle – or you saw what happened – please contact police.
“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw either the lorry or the car travelling between junction 21 and junction 20 prior to the collision occurring.”
■ A man died and a woman is in a critical condition following a separate collision involving a car and a lorry on the motorway.
At 4am on Friday, a Volvo XC90 and a DAF HGV lorry collided near to Junction 28, in Derbyshire.
A 70-year-old man, the driver of the Volvo, died at the scene. A woman who was the passenger was taken to hospital where she was in a critical condition. The road was closed until 1.20pm. Anyone with information relating to the collision or with dashcam footage is asked to contact Derbyshire police on 101.
