Horseshoe hunt proves a success

-

LUCKY searchers have bagged some top prizes after a horseshoe hunt that went on over the summer holidays in Ullesthorpe.

The main award was £100 of sports vouchers to be used at the Lutterworth Sports Supplies shop, paid for by the parish council.

The equine project was launched by personal trainer Helen Fountain, to get children in the village active over the summer break.

She hid the horseshoes around the village, with different prizes on offer for the different metal items.

Sisters Hannah and Lottie Willdig won the top prize of the vouchers.

The other winner was Alfie Lee, who unlocked the Golden Horseshoe which was in a village shop window. It had to be released by finding clues to get the combination for the padlock.

Helen said: “This went on for the final few days of the game after all other shoes had been found and caused a great deal of excitement.

“The children had all seen the shoe in the shop and were desperate to win it.”

Alfie won a sports day kit, with bean bags, eggs and spoons, cones and other items.

Youngsters taking part posted pictures of the horseshoes on Facebook so the points could be totted up.

“The game has been received with a great amount of interest and positivity from local residents”, Helen said.

“I would love to see this concept be replicated in other areas with the sole aim to encourage youngsters to be physically active and spend more time outdoors with friends and taking part in sports rather than sitting indoors in front of screens.”

The parish council also helped in printing off leaflets for the event.

Children were allowed to keep the horseshoes that they found.
