Students take a sporting tour of African nation
SPORTS teams from a Hinckley school spent two weeks in South Africa over the summer.
The group of 48 students from Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre representing netball and rugby enjoyed a busy trip with sightseeing and games.
Students from Year 10 and 11 went on the trip, after two years of planning and fundraising, including quiz night and bag packing events to pay for their travel and kit.
Stephanie Cheney, PE teacher and trip organiser said: “Touring is such an important part of sport here at Hinckley Academy.
“We aim to give our students world class experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.”
The rugby team took on some tough opposition with strong performances from Ben and Seb securing them three wins out of four.
The netball team faced a different style of playing from what they are used to but nimble work including from Georgia and Ella meant they won two and lost two.
Off the pitch, the pupils went on a two-day safari, climbed Table Mountain, visited a township, went whale watching and to Robben Island.
A representative for the academy said: “Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre have a long-standing history of supporting the sports stars of the future.
“It is hoped that events such as this will continue to support student success long into the future.
“We encourage members of the local community to come and join one of our regular tour slots, giving them the chance to meet our PE staff and hear more about the fantastic opportunities we offer students here at HAJC6.”
