Table tennis round up

HIT and Hope A are the early pace-setters in Division 2 of the Table Tennis league. They overcame a spirited and youthful George Ward G side to record a 10 sets to nil victory.

Ian Nixon (H&HA) claiming the man of the match award. For the Barwell side Freya Wynne took Brian Moylan to five sets losing 11-6 in the final game and then took a game from David Shaw(H&HA) as well. In their second match they overcame Cat E by 7 sets to 3, with Nixon again claiming man of the match. Alec Downes (Cat E) gained two good victories for the Desford side with wins over both Moylan and John Harrison in very close matches.

Just behind Hit and Hope A are G Ward E who came close to lifting the title last year.

They were held to a draw in their opening fixture by Cat F, who seem to have unearthed another useful player in Jeffrey Oddy (Cat F) who won two of his games. GWE were not able to field their best side due to injury but they fought hard and Jack Dennis (GWE) impressed with two good victories including straight sets win over Oddy. Their next match saw them overcome a young Market Bosworth side by 10 sets to nil. Dave Richardson claiming man of the match on his return to the side.

Cat F meanwhile defeated their own G team by 6 sets to 4. Cat G provided the outstandin­g player on the night however in Eiz Al Katrib who won all his games in fine style.

Hit and Hope B beat newcomers G Ward F by 7 sets to three.

Meanwhile one of the pre-season favourites for the title G Ward C beat Cat G by 9 sets to 1, with veteran Roger Hill (GWC) claiming best player of the match. In their next fixture they claimed a 6 sets to 4 win over Market Bosworth A.

Cat F overcame Mkt Bosworth B to win by 8 sets to 2.
