Funding for businesses in the county

-

BUSINESSES across Leicestershire can now apply for funding of up to £5,000 to help them implement active and sustainable travel initiatives in the workplace.

The grants, which are available from the county council and funded by the Department for Transport, aim to help businesses boost levels of activity amongst their staff by promoting active and sustainable travel as part of everyday life.

Promoting and making it easier for staff to walk, cycle, car share, or use public transport will not only helps reduce carbon footprint, but also makes for a happier and more productive workplace.

Cycle parking, lockers, car sharing schemes, and electric bikes, are all tools that can be used by staff to make healthier, environmentally friendly travel choices.

Urging businesses to apply, Blake Pain, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “I encourage all businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for funding.

“It is important that businesses understand the contribution they can make towards a more sustainable environment including a sustainable road network. These are areas of concern for everyone and all organisations should be conscious of how to become more productive and customer focused.

“The county council is proud to be leading the way in sustainable travel. We offer staff car-sharing spaces, electric charging points, as well as an electric pool car and pool bikes to use to and from meetings, all of which will help us meet our target of lower carbon emissions.”
