Two wins and a loss for Hinckley RFC youngsters

-

Kenilworth RFC U14s V Hinckley RFC U14s GAME 5, the second away game this season and the first this season for two players.

The match started with 3 quickly taken tries by Kenilworth, showing they had a couple of lads with great pace and direct running.

Whilst this set the score board climbing, HRFC had to work out how to deal with them. It wasn’t easy and the lads found it tough, but once they remembered to tackle legs they managed to put together a few phases, enough to claw one back from a catch and pass through to the wing. Despite this try the performance in the first half was lack lustre and they had to find a way to play with a bit more spirit.

Following half time, the score stood at 24-5. The secret for this game was in the forwards, working harder as a team, lifting heads up and remembering the skills they have. The forwards began to put together a number of good pick ups from the back of ruck and mauls. This showed a few that the team could make ground if they went for it.

They stopped a series of attacks from Kenilworth out wide which in the first half would have been run in. Although Kenilworth did score again Hinckley were playing better and after a series of attacks they got another one back. Although the game was safe for Kenilworth Hinckley scored a third try, which was a good focus for the team. As ever plenty to work on come Wednesday. Final score 43-17.

Hinckley RFC U15s V Moseley RFC U15s

A cold sunny autumn morning at Hinckley RFC, sees a win for Wales on the big screen.

The sun shining and the visitors looking ready for the game, Hinckley won the toss and decided to start. Moseley caught the kick but Hinckley applied the pressure, seeing Healy scoring. The restart was a little short from Moseley and Hinckley took advantage and used the field to score by Becks down the wing.

The ref making sure both sides were aware of what he expected from them, Hinckley took this on board and continued to apply the pressure on Moseley, Healy took the ball under the posts to see Walton convert.

The second half started with some simple rugby and back to basic team playing, Moseley gave away a penalty, which saw Creapase take the ball down the pitch supported by Wilson, who finally scored. A scrum given to Hinckley, the ball came out, Kennerson chipped it down field, Handford chased and caught the ball on the run to go under the posts try scored, and Walton converted. Moseley still holding their heads high came out fighting but only to knock the ball on, the ref plays advantage, only to find Handford who off loads to Heaven, who scores.

The game restarted and Hinckley pushed forward again, Handford took the ball forward and was stopped by Moseley, forming a maul with Handford in the middle, Hinckley forwards came to his support and pushed the maul from the 22 line over the try line to see Wilson have the ball in hand another try. Plowdog converted.

From some more basic handling Hinckley scored again making a hat trick for Wilson. Final score 51-0.

Bugbrooke RFC (Northampton) U16s V Hinckley RFC U16s

Hinckley U16s travelled down the A5 to the picturesque village of Burgbrooke in Northampton.

The new club house was quickly filled with the U16s who watched the end of the Wales V France Rugby World Cup quarter final match.

As the autumn sun shone through, Bugbrooke kicked off and both teams were showing early nerves by making some basic errors.

Hinckley repeatedly found themselves in the opposition 22, but time after time they were denied by last ditch tackles or handling errors. Hinckley quickly realised that they needed to commit more players into the rucks and be patient.

That patience eventually paid off with a try from Moore that was converted by Drakeford. Almost immediately Bugbrooke replied, with their only score of the day, intercepting a Hinckley pass and sprinting the full length of the pitch to dot the ball down. Hinckley didn’t lose faith and replied with 3 more tries before the break. L Whittingham, bumping tackles off along the wing, Jacques sprinting along the opposite wing and Barnes crashing through from a scrum.

After the Hinckley coaches half time talk the team were all on the same page. The handling and ball retention improved and an early sliding try was scored in the corner by Smith.

A further 4 tries were scored by Hinckley without reply by Jacques, Moore and L Whittingham. The pick of the 4 saw captain Barnes sprint 50 meters, shaking off tackles, before drawing the last defender and passing the ball to the supporting Allen who dotted the ball down. Giles was the guest kicker for the last two conversions and he finished the game with a 100% kicking record. A tough, well fought game finished Bugbrooke 7 – Hinckley 58.
