Hinckley win to move into fourth

-

HINCKLEY A played Griff & Coton A. The girls knew this would be a tough game due to the Griff having a strong defence.

The first quarter ended 10 a piece so Hinckley stepped it up a gear and by half time had a 3 goal lead. The Hinckley shooters Carole Payne and Holly Hemsley were shooting well against the solid Griff defence in order to secure their lead. The third quarter remained a close third but Hinckley kept their lead winning the third quarter 32-29. The forth and final quarter saw Hinckley keep their lead and win by a convincing 8 goals; Hinckley winning 46-38. The Hinckley defence Kate Chamberlain, Jess Rainbow and B teams Steph Morton played well and won a number of interceptions and rebounds preventing The Griff from scoring a number of goals. This week Player of the match went to WA Nicola Cairns (formally Sanders, congrats on the wedding) who connected well with C Bex Oldfield in getting the ball up the court and into the shooters. Hinckley A now sit 4th in the table (division one) with 9 points.

This week the B team played away against Ambleside D. With both teams having 2 wins under their belt the team expected a close game, which was certainly delivered. By half time Ambleside had pulled away with a lead of 11 points however Hinckley B team kept working hard determined to not let the game get away from them. Despite a torrential downpour in the final quarter which made it pretty slippy underfoot Hinckley B’s managed to pull back within 6 points for a final score of 39 - 33 to Ambleside D. Although the team were defeated everyone pulled together really well during the last quarter and will be looking for another win at their next game!

Hinckley C team took on Whitnash at home this week. Hinckley quickly the lead taking advantage of Whitnash starting with 6 players. This soon became goal for goal, both teams making good use of every turn over and centre pass. The first 2 quarters finished 9-7 to Hinckley and 17-17 at half time. Play continued in the same manner but Whitnash began to pull ahead. Hinckley unfortunately could not close the gap finishing 28-29 in the third and 34-40 on the final whistle. Player of the match wing attack Liz Newman.

Hinckley’s attack started confidently with shots being accurately scored and overall team play flowing well and by the end of the first quarter were leading 14-7.

Hinckley continued to dominate through the whole game with the defence end making endless interceptions and centre court bringing the ball down to the shooting circle for more sensational shots.

Throughout the game play was consistent and despite a few inaccurate passes, Hinckley were on form fighting for all balls. Despite tiring a little in the last quarter, Godiva could not close the gap enough and Hinckley won the match 45-37. POM went to Dasia playing WD.

In the third match of the season, against Warwick Ladies, once again Hinckley were strong at the start of the game. Some excellent passes were made and some incredible shots were thrown. Towards the end of the game Hinckley slowed down and Warwick Ladies we’re able to catch up slightly but the team made sure Hinckley’s pressure paid off and defenders were on top form. Great game and great win. Katie (GA) was Player of the match! Final score Hinckley E 52-34 Warwick Ladies.

Hinckley U16B had their first game of the season. With an injury in the first couple of minutes it wasn’t a great start but despite trailing by a few goals throughout the first half Hinckley held their own fighting for any loose balls and working well as a team. They were encouraging defenders interceptions and attackers drives and shots. Hinckley U16B couldn’t quite catch up with Alvis but a strong first outing. POM Derry.

There were a few switches for Hinckley U16Cs starting line up this weekend as they faced an experienced Harbury team. Using the space well with strong teamwork and links throughout the court they fought hard but were unable to reap the rewards. POM Emily.
