Six of the best for Leicester Road

-

HINCKLEY’S Leicester Road FC eased to a comfortable 6-0 away win at Paget Rangers in North Birmingham, to make it five MFL wins in a row and a fourth clean sheet.

They were already 0-1 up from a Liam Read strike when Paget’s Clarke saw red for an awful hack on Read early on – and then followed it up with goals from Sam Munton, skipper Danny Jenno, Jack Harrison, Nuno Gomes and another from Read.

LRFC began brightly despite the torrential rain and on just 2 mins, Jenno found Read with a lovely pass out on the left and he cut inside the full back Mullan to drive it past the startled home keeper Hayward.

He was causing Paget real problems every time he touched the ball and on 10 mins Paget centre half Clarke took him out in full flight leaving the referee no alternative but to issue marching orders. Two minutes later tormentor Read again glided past Mullan to get in another fierce shot, but this time Hayward made a fine save to keep it 0-1.

LRFC kept up the pressure and apart from the odd dangerous long ball had all the momentum – and on 28 mins the second goal did come and it was a beauty. Jenno and Road No.9 Matt Langham showed some really neat touches to set up Munton and he slid in from 10 yards with his left foot.

Jordan Burrows saw his well-struck 25 yard drive go just wide on 35 mins and Read almost made it 0-3 just before half time when Hayward somehow bundled his well placed shot over the bar.

LRFC didn’t let up against the 10 men of Paget from the start of the second period and on 49 mins with them under pressure it was 0-3 – Hayward handled outside the box (but inexplicably no card?) and Jenno curled a lovely free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner.

Dom Brennan wriggled free for the Road on 56 mins but he smashed his shot too close to the keeper, however on 60 mins a pinpoint ball from Simon Alcott to Gomes (on for Langham) set him free and he drew the keeper before squaring for Read to tap in for 0-4 to LRFC.

On 65 mins Read drew a superb save from Heyward as he tipped it round the post, but from the resultant corner a training ground move saw Harrison rise highest at the far post to nod in for 0-5.

Then on 82 mins Alcott again freed Gomes and the speedy forward raced clear to slide it under the advancing Hayward for the sixth. It could have been seven just before full time but Callum Earls was thwarted by yet another good reflex save from Paget stopper Hayward.

Next up for third-placed LRFC in the league is the second ‘A5’derby of the season when they entertain Nuneaton Griff at home on Saturday 26th October, kick off 3pm.
