Hughes and Hurlston tie for first place in difficult conditions

WITH sport at it’s hardest due to the influx of the cold rain water, two anglers tied for top spot in the annual Mick Varley Memorial contest fished at Higham lane Fishery.

The two anglers Dean Hughes and Dave Hurlston were pegged next to each other. Dean on peg17 landed five carp while Dave netted four bigger fish from peg 18 as they both weighed 28lb 8ozs. Pete Eden finished third catching four carp to weigh 26lb 11ozs.

A big turn out for Maynes Lakes mid week Open contest found sport difficult with the lakes full of cold rainwater water. Leading the way was Andy “Jasper” Stewart who fished pellet in the deeper water down the middle to finish with the days top weight of 28lb 7ozs. Result; Pool One, Winner; Darryl Moore, 26lb 2ozs, peg 2. Pool Two, Winner: Andy Stewart peg 34. Pool Three, Winner; Pat Finucane 20lb 12ozs peg 52.

Measham’s away day contest on the Coventry Canal at Alvercote, near Polesworth was won from the same peg as on their last visit! This time the lucky angler who drew it was Steve Kind,who finished well clear with an 8lb 11oz catch, which included a superb 4lb 14oz chub. With the roach not feeding, small perch made up most of the catches, Phil Hicks weighing 1lb 4ozs to finish second while Phil Baker weighed 1lb 2ozs to take third place.

Lutterwort­h’s match at Holme Farm produced some good catches with Martin Lemburg taking the honours with a 98lb 3oz catch off peg 1. Ian Stripp weighed 80lb 12ozs from peg 15 to finish second with Kev Smith taking third place with 73lb 9ozs.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match was won by Chris Whaite with a 32lb 110z catch from peg 12. Mick Linnett finished second with 28lb 6ozs while Andy Findlay came third with 27lb 11ozs.

Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Open match was won by the inform paul Twigger with a 35lb 10oz catch from peg 23. Ian Shirley finished second from peg 8 with a 29lb 14oz catch while Andy Atkins came third with 20lb 8ozs.

Higham lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries continue their Autumn League this Saturday, draw 9am. On Sunday the Fishery have their normal Open match draw 11am.

Shackersto­ne have their Member Fur & Feather contest this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an Open match this Sunday at Stoke Golding, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
