Dimbleby takes title after finishing second in final round

-

SUNDAY saw Shackerstone AC stage the final round of their Onstylelifting sponsored Members Winter League Series fished at the top end of the Jockey straight section of the Ashby Canal and to see who would be crowned Champion for 2019.

Here the water colour was beginning to return to normal for this time of year but with a heavy tow, fishing was again a problem as fish were reluctant to feed.

The winner of this match was Nuneaton angler Kev Cooper on peg 9 who fed and fished his usual bread to the far shelf.

He managed to find a shoal of small roach that wanted to feed on and off throughout the match together with a couple of small skimmers to give him a runaway victory with 2lbs 2ozs and 1 point. Second place went to Hinckley angler Doug Dimbleby on peg 7 who also fed and fished bread to the far ledge.

Sadly like so many, he really struggled and after two hours only had a couple of roach, albeit one around 4 ozs.

A switch to worm down the track only gave him limited success in the form of one small perch and he ended with just 7ozs and 2 points. Third on the day went to Market Bosworth angler Andy Morton on peg 3 who again fished the bread to the far shelf. His match was as bad as others although he did manage 5 small roach to end with 6ozs and 3 points.

The League title based on the best three results out of four went to Dimbleby with just 5 points, while Cooper and Morton were joint second with 8 points and in joint third were Phil

Hicks and Phil Baker with 15 points.

Sunday will see Shackerstone AC stage an Open match on the Ashby canal as there will now be on every Sunday until March, the draw times being 7.45am as usual at the Rising Sun.

Lastly, Shackerstone and Measham Angling Clubs wish all their Members a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
