Rare bespoke motorcycle is stolen in raid on garage

A TEENAGER has been left “heartbroken” after thieves stole a modified motorbike he had spent two years upgrading.

Jordan Bonser, 14, from Barwell, was hoping to pass on the 1980s motor to future generations of his family, spending £500 to replace the engine and kit it out with bespoke parts.

Thieves broke into a garage next to where Jordan lives on Kirkby Road, in Barwell, and took the bike in the late evening of New Year’s Day.

“I’m very heartbroken”, said Jordan. It was a little 50cc bike and I stripped it and rebuilt it to make it just how I wanted it.

“I took all the bearings off and the seats and took the engine out, to swap it for a 110cc. It’s a rare bike.”

A 120-piece mechanical tool set was also taken by the intruders, which was worth £100 when it was new. The teenager’s mum discovered the break-in at about 11.30pm on New Year’s Day, with Jordan last seeing the motorbike when he put it away at 3.30pm. They heard someone moving some bins outside at around 10pm but didn’t think the noise was anything suspicious.

Mr Bonser said the bike would be very loud when its engine is running and that the vehicle has a serial number embedded near the handlebars: 50PY200011994.

The garage was also broken into about a year ago, when a hedge trimmer was taken.

The bike was there at the time but it was in pieces as it was in the process of being rebuilt.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said that officers carried out house to house inquiries in relation to the incident.

Jordan has posted about the theft on the Spotted Hinckley Facebook page, appealing for anyone who might have dashcam or CCTV footage of the area to get in touch.
