Museum puts in plans for new signs

HINCKLEY and District Museum is hoping to erect signs so that people know that the historical centre is based there.

Chairman Ann Crabtree said that despite them putting a board outside the door when it is open, people often walk past and don’t know it’s there.

The group has applied to erect a 1,500mm x 750mm sign on each side of the building and a 800mm x 400mm sign above the entrance.

Ms Crabtree said: “We hope that as they would be prominent on each end of the building, if you are in the car park you will see it from there.

“If you are entering the town along Ashby Road and Upper Bond Street, you will see the sign on the other end of the building.

“The one over the door will be more prominent, so there will be no possibilit­y of people not knowing that Hinckley has a museum and that is where it is.”

They hope to have the boards in place by the time they open again on Easter Monday next year.

Funds for the £1,040 (+VAT) project will come half from the museum and half from a Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council grant.

Paul Grundy, conservati­on officer at the council, said: “We are delighted that as part of our environmen­tal improvemen­t programme we have been able to provide funding to support Hinckley Museum with additional signage.

“This demonstrat­es commitment to promote our the museum heritage.

“The signage is still subject to planning approval, but once installed it will make the Museum and all that it offers more visible from the street.” and the borough’s
