Have a go as firefighter
Chance to try role as recruitment begins for county fire service
PROSPECTIVE firefighters are being invited to find out what is involved in the job ahead of the next round of recruitment.
Four ‘Have A Go’ days for on-call roles will take place over the next few weeks, starting on January 12.
They give people an insight into what an on-call firefighter does and the required strength, fitness and aptitude levels.
Rick Taylor, chief fire and rescue officer, said: “On-call firefighters play a vital role and help us provide the best service to the communities we serve.
“We hope to encourage people to come forward, find out more about being an on-call firefighter and, ultimately, apply for a role.
“This is a real opportunity for honest members of our communities, who are looking for a rewarding job where they can also give something positive back.”
Our professional on-call firefighters play an important role to operational response.
“They carry an alerter and respond to emergency calls, where they face all kinds of challenges.
“It is a paid role and is dependent on your personal availability and the number of calls you respond to. The Have a Go days are on: January 12, 10am to 3pm, Uppingham Sports Centre, Leicester Road, Uppingham;
January 14, 6pm to 8pm, Central fire station, Lancaster Road, Leicester;
January 19, 10am to 3pm, Hinckley fire station, Leicester Road;
January 26, 10am to 3pm, Wigston fire station, Bull Head Street.
Anyone unable to attend can get in touch with their nearest on-call fire and rescue station.
Hopefuls may be able to attend the weekly drill night, where they will find out more about the role and meet potential future colleagues.
The recruitment website will open for applications for on-call firefighter roles on Thursday and will close on Wednesday, January 29.
There are a number of essential requirements people will need to meet in order to be considered for a role. These can be found – and places can be booked for the Have a Go days – at:
