Charity begins at school as students help out

-

PUPILS at a school in Hinckley have once again shown their support for a homeless charity in the town.

Year 13 students at Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre made goodie bags for young people staying at Lawrence House, which is part of the Hinckley Homeless Group.

They worked in their tutor groups to create bags of gifts for the 12 young men or women staying there, including socks, dressing gowns, chocolates and toiletries.

Year 13 teacher Kate Cook said: “From the outset our students were really keen and switched on to this project, really thinking about

treats that the young people there would like.

“It’s really pulled the group together in a very positive way.”

Sixth Form administrator and co-ordinator of the Lawrence House Christmas appeal.

She said: “It is really heart-warming to see students create their goodie bags and to know that their acts of kindness will make a real difference.”

She added: “As the young people in Lawrence House are between 16 to 25 years of age it is a cause particularly close to our student’s hearts.

“They have really thought about what it must be like to be in someone else’s shoes and have all worked together to create a truly special gift bag to put a smile on someone’s face.”

Louise Adams, Project manager from the Hinckley Homeless Group, said: “Thank you very much to JC6 for thinking of us.

“Lawrence House is busier than ever and it really means a lot when young people help young people.”
