Car rams into barbers

Shop was forced to shut after car damaged the door

A BARBER shop damaged by a car smashing into its front is back in business thanks to generous help from the community.

1st Class Gents Barber Shop, in Barwell, was forced to close last week after a Ford Focus reversed into its entrance, mangling the frame of the shop, before driving off.

The next day, shop owner Ben Dicks was inspecting the damage when a man passing by offered to help tidy up some of the broken windows.

He was also given a new front door by a neighbour, which is now fitted in place, meaning the space is open for business again.

The shop was due to open today at 9am, with appointments and walk-ins available. Mr Dicks has spray painted signs on the wooden boards covering the store to let people know they can come in for a trim.

The grateful barber said: “I’m over the moon. This is the first time anything like this has happened.

“It was really overwhelming and good for people to come together and help me out, on a Saturday, and to get us going again.”

The shop posted on Facebook to thank those who had come to its aid.

It said: “You’re all amazing and thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you’ve done today.

“The community came and a band of people provided a business with the means to go on.”

The crash happened on January 2, at 9pm.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers received a report at 9.15pm on Thursday, January 2, of a car being reversed into a premises in High Street, Barwell.

“Damage was caused to the premises before the car, believed to be a silver Ford Focus, then left the scene.

“Nothing was stolen from the premises.

“The car believed to be used in the incident was found later in the evening in the area of Belton Close, Leicester.”
