MAIN roads through Hinckley will be closed for 14 weeks while a gas mains replacement project is carried out.

Ageing pipes in Station Road and Hawley Road are set for a facelift in as part of an ongoing programme by supplier Cadent to update the town’s gas network.

There were roadworks for seven months in the Coventry Road area last year while similar gas regeneration works took place.

Station Road will be closed southbound for four weeks starting from January 27, with a diversion available via Clarendon Road, Rugby Road and Hawley Road.

Following this, Hawley Road will be closed westbound for 10 weeks, with an alternative route through the town centre via Southfield Road, Park Road, Spa Lane, Leicester Road, Holliers Walk, The Borough, Mansion

Street and Rugby Road.

A spokeswoman for Cadent said the project would “replace ageing iron mains with tough new plastic pipes that will keep homes and businesses warm and safe until the 22nd century”.

The gas works will start on the same day, January 27, when part of the A47 Dodwells Road will close for two weeks on the outskirts of Hinckley near Dodwells Island, as a new McDonald’s branch is installed.

A 200m section of the A47 will be closed near the roundabout for a fortnight, with traffic diverted through the town via Coventry Road, Trinity Lane, Mansion Street, Lower Bond Street, Upper Bond Street, Ashby Road and the A47.

There will also be three sets of overnight closures of Dodwells Road.

These will include: February 3 - for five nights February 10 - for four nights Bosses said in September that the 160-seat, drive thru restaurant would be ready to open next year.

Access to the Dodwells Road.

Plans were originally filed in May 2013 to build a McDonald’s and a car repair centre on the site, but councillors turned it down after a nearby business threatened to relocate from the town.

McDonald’s already branch on the outskirts town, off the A47 near site will be via has a of the Morrisons.
