Santa and fun run help to raise £7,000
Rotary club holds a Chrismas campaign to help good causes
THE Rotary Club of Market Bosworth has raised a fabulous £7,000 over the festive period.
The Christmas campaign involved a number of events in the town including a Santa fun run through the park.
President, John Hayes said: “The Rotary Christmas Countdown has blossomed into a season-long campaign nowadays, yielding more in donations in one month than during all of the rest of the year.
“We raised £7,000 in total, most of it coming from our Santa’s Sleigh collections.
“In addition to touring the communities in and around Market Bosworth, Santa also parked up on two December Saturdays at Hinckley market, this proving to be an inspired decision by sleigh master
Brian Cox.
“The local Women’s Institute, Inner Wheel, Scouts, playgroups, Young Farmers, church groups and our friends at the Hinckley Rotary Club all joined us at various times throughout the month, thoroughly enjoying the festive spirit of the shared Christmas Countdown experience.
“What a great way to bring communities close together!”
There are two sides to Rotary club activities. In the first instance, club members serve and work with the community in a variety of ways throughout the year.
Secondly, members raise funds to support worthy causes, whenever possible combining both things at the same time.
Such was the case with the Sunday morning Santa Fun Run in Bosworth
Park which kicked off the Rotary Christmas Countdown, when nearly 100 Santa look-alikes completed the route around the arboretum.
And in the afternoon, it was off to see Santa in his sleigh in the Market Place amid the excited crowds, the bright lights and the many attractions.
The president continued: “At time of writing, the club is about to meet, to decide where to allocate the funds.
“In the past, because of the traditional generosity of our friends in Newbold Verdon, Barleston, Nailstone, Desford, Carlton and Congerstone we’ve been regular donors to causes such as First Responders, Air Ambulance and Rainbows Hospice.
“It’s good to be a Rotarian!”
