Flying start leads to win for netball team

-

HINCKLEY C netball team were at home to Ambleside E this week. Ambleside were off to a flying start leading 10 goals to 5 by the end of the first quarter. Hinckley continued to struggle in the second despite some good interceptions and turnovers they struggled to finish, scoring just one goal in the period.

The second half Hinckley were back in the game but the Ambleside shooters were missing few chances and their defence remained tight. The final quarter saw Hinckley match the visitors goal for goal but sadly it was too big a defcit to get back. Ths final score was 38-19 to Ambleside. POM was GK/GD Jo Oakes

Hinckley D team played Ernesford E away in the lunchtime match, and luckily the courts were defrosted after a frosty morning. Starting the match Hinckley’s shooters were apprehensive after the previous game ended in a win by only 1 goal nevertheless, Hinckley went out on court with a positive attitude.

Hinckley started off very strong and the first quarter saw Hinckley begin at a steady pace, keeping possession and moving the ball freely around the court with straight forward passes into the shooting circle ending the first quarter 12-7 to Hinckley.

After a brief team talk Hinckley headed back on court to carry on pushing for the win. Throughout the game the defence worked extremely hard to gather up any rebounds and bring them back down to Hinckley’s GA and GS.

Hinckley’s calmness showed during the game and they dominated throughout, taking advantage of errors made by Ernesford and by keeping their cool in the circle. Hinckley’s shooters were on fire, making the most of their opportunities and rarely missing their shots. With good teamwork throughout the court, Hinckley made good use of their energy, constantly being free from Ernesford and finding lots of space.

A switch of GD in the third quarter gave Hinckley a little bit more height in the defence circle giving more chances at interceptions. This week Hinckley’s centre passes from Fliss had improved massively with only 2 interceptions in the whole game concluding in the attack being able to get the ball down court easily.

Going into the last quarter Hinckley gave it their all and had their best quarter scoring 16 to Ernesford’s 7. The game ended with a triumphant win to Hinckley 56 – 31 with player of the match going to Anna Poulson at GS.

There was a cold icy start to the morning as Hinckley E warmed up well and were ready to take on their opponents.

Small passes between Hinckley players made it very easy to move the ball down the court and into the hands of the shooters. Hinckley E were able to keep their heads up throughout the whole game. With tactical defending, they were able to land the game which ended in a win 38-34. Despite the cold it was a good game to play and watch. POM Imogen Banton (GS)
