New season of concerts this Saturday at town church
HINCKLEY Music Club launches its 57th season of concerts this coming Saturday with a recital by international pianist Julian Hellaby, in memory of the club’s founder, Marjorie King.
Mr Hellaby studied piano with the distinguished British pianist Denis Matthews and later at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
His performance will be entitled ‘A Musical Journey Around Europe’ and will include works by Chopin, Tailleferre, Bonis and Chaminade, Britain’s own John Ireland, Glinka, Balakirev, C.P.E Bach and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
The accomplished musician has performed as solo pianist, concerto soloist, accompanist and chamber musician in continental Europe, the Middle East (Israel and Lebanon), South Africa and throughout the UK.
He has presented recitals at prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room and the Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Mr Hellaby is an examiner for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), moderator and public presenter, as well as a former mentor the board’s Certificate of Teaching course.
He has taught academic music at Coventry University and London College of Music, and also has extensive experience of adjudicating and piano teaching at all levels, including masterclasses for ABRSM and other organisations.
The performer has released several CDs as solo and collaborative pianist and his book Reading Musical Interpretation was published by Ashgate in 2009.
The concert is on Saturday March 14 at Holy Trinity Church in Hinckley, starting at 7.30pm.
