New season of concerts this Saturday at town church

HINCKLEY Music Club launches its 57th season of concerts this coming Saturday with a recital by internatio­nal pianist Julian Hellaby, in memory of the club’s founder, Marjorie King.

Mr Hellaby studied piano with the distinguis­hed British pianist Denis Matthews and later at London’s Royal Academy of Music.

His performanc­e will be entitled ‘A Musical Journey Around Europe’ and will include works by Chopin, Tailleferr­e, Bonis and Chaminade, Britain’s own John Ireland, Glinka, Balakirev, C.P.E Bach and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

The accomplish­ed musician has performed as solo pianist, concerto soloist, accompanis­t and chamber musician in continenta­l Europe, the Middle East (Israel and Lebanon), South Africa and throughout the UK.

He has presented recitals at prestigiou­s venues including the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room and the Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields.

Mr Hellaby is an examiner for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), moderator and public presenter, as well as a former mentor the board’s Certificat­e of Teaching course.

He has taught academic music at Coventry University and London College of Music, and also has extensive experience of adjudicati­ng and piano teaching at all levels, including masterclas­ses for ABRSM and other organisati­ons.

The performer has released several CDs as solo and collaborat­ive pianist and his book Reading Musical Interpreta­tion was published by Ashgate in 2009.

The concert is on Saturday March 14 at Holy Trinity Church in Hinckley, starting at 7.30pm.
