PREVIEW: MY SPY (12A)

A TRAINED killer and a young girl become unlikely allies in the battle against global terrorism in director Peter Segal’s family-friendly caper.

Special Forces operative JJ (Dave Bautista, pictured) struggles to embrace the subtleties of retraining as a spy under CIA director David Kim (Ken Jeong).

JJ’s heavy-handed approach to one undercover mission results in the loss of a nuclear core to terrorist Marquez (Greg Bryk).

To redeem himself, JJ begrudgingly undertakes covert surveillance of Marquez’s sister-in-law, Kate Newton (Parisa Fitz-Henley), with IT expert Bobbi Ault (Kristen Schaal). JJ is ordered to keep a low profile to avoid further embarrassment to the CIA.

Unfortunately, Kate’s resourceful nine-year-old daughter Sophie (Chloe Coleman) blows his cover and blackmails JJ into training her as a spy. The girl also engineers a date between JJ and her mother.

With his mission compromised and his feelings for Kate growing, JJ faces a crisis of conscience that will determine his long-term future in the CIA.

PREVIEW: THE HUNT (15)

HILARY SWANK stars in a twisted horror thriller directed by Craig

Zobel, where sadistic hunters become prey in a film loosely inspired by Richard Connell’s 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game.

Twelve strangers regain consciousness in a clearing with no short-term memory. They are clueless as to their location and quickly surmise that they have been hand-picked as targets in a diabolical game organised by the wealthy and privileged, who hunt humans for sport.

One of the 12, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, pictured with Swank), refuses to accept her fate. She retaliates with force and guile against her aggressors, focusing her attention on the remote manor house where the hunters gather ahead of the bloodbath.
