Hinckley B hold nerve to take narrow victory

-

HINCKLEY A played Ambleside B who currently sit top of the table and who are looking for promotion to the Premier Division. Hinckley knew they were facing a tough game but by half time Ambleside were only ahead by 6 goals.

The third quarter Ambleside picked things up a gear and went ahead by 20 goals however Hinckley never let their heads down and fought right through until the end. The end score 58-40 to Ambleside B. Player of the match this week went to Goal Shooter Carol Payne.

Hinckley B team played away against Godiva this week. At their last encounter Godiva took victory at Hinckley’s home ground, therefore Hinckley B were determined to not let Godiva get the better of them again! Although Hinckley started well, with only a few goals being scored in the first 5 minutes, Godiva pulled ahead to 9-4 up.

In response Hinckley changed tactics, moving the team around with Lynda Sanders slotting in as GS and Lucy Marsden at GA. The team started the second quarter really strongly, pulling back the deficit to only 4 goals. The team had started to rattle the opposition. Annis Pears GK, Leanne Evans GD and Caron Ogden WD proved to be a powerful defensive unit preventing numerous goals even though the opposition shooting was accurate.

Thanks to some incredible feeds from Emily Harrison WA and Lucy Masser C the shooting circle were on fire with Hinckley taking the lead into the final quarter. The last 15 minutes were tight, with the opposition getting increasingly vocal both at their own players and Hinckley, however the team kept calm. Steph Morton dropped in as GK in the final quarter to keep up Annis’s good work! The team fought to the final whistle narrowly taking a very well deserved victory of 37-36! Massive congratulations to the team and well deserved POM to both Emily Harrison and Lucy Masser who dominated centre court, supporting the shooting circle and getting some amazing interceptions.

With the previous encounter against Copeswood E being a close fought game, Hinckley C knew they had to bring their A game. With a change of position for Fran and Chloe in the shooting circle proving effective in the first quarter, the score was 12-11 going into half time. With Laura and Jo tipping shots in the circle it made it very difficult for Copeswood to make the most of their limited opportunities, as Jess was making flying interceptions down court. Sue and Liz made good use of their speed through the mid-court and were able to feed the ball into the final third. Overall a well earned win for Hinckley C who managed to keep their cool throughout with the final score being 26-21. Player went to Chloe at GS.

Hinckley D were delighted the weather was a bit more hospitable this week and were in good spirits at the start of the game against Jaguar Landrover B (JLR). However they played a chaotic first quarter, not settling in their positions at all and found themselves 12-4 down. Therefore at the quarter break Hinckley reconsidered their positions and swapped 5 players around.

The second quarter saw them settle into their game with steadier flow on court and there were more opportunities for both shooters in the circle. Although this was Hinckley’s best quarter and they matched JLR goal for goal, from the original deficit they were not able to close the gap. An ongoing injury for Hinckley’s GK meant a further change to the team at half time.

Overall court play was quite evenly matched and the defence worked well intercepting many balls. A few umpire decisions went against Hinckley but they tried to remain positive throughout the game.

Player of the match went to Lucy Ibbitson playing GS/GA for her general movement on court and fantastic shooting. The final score was 48 – 27 in JLR’s favour, an improvement on the previous result but enough for Hinckley to take away a point from the match.

Hinckley E were playing Jaguar Landrover and they had a strong start with some excellent defending and many rebounds.

After the first half JLR were in front. With a few changes at half time, Hinckley started to pull it back. But as the last quarter approached, the gap started to widen with JLR still leading, Hinckley’s shooters continued to play brilliantly. Throughout the whole of the game the team pushed through, making each second count.

However the gap was too wide to pull it back and ended with a loss. The final score was 24-50 to JLR and player of the match was Megan.
