BIG mac lovers have a new place to pick up their favourite fast food as a new McDonald’s branch has opened on the outskirts of the town.

The drive-thru branch, off the A5, has 160 seats across two floors, with self-service points on both levels and a ‘click and collect’ service via the app meaning customers can order at their own pace, with the option to have their food delivered to their table.

McDonald’s franchisee Lorraine Lee is leading the venture, while she also manages the other McDonald’s in the town, on Wheatfield Way.

She said: “My team and I are thrilled to be opening a new restaurant in Hinckley, bringing more jobs to the local area and with it, new training and opportunities.

“The new restaurant will create 100 new jobs with flexible positions that can fit around family or study commitments.”

She said she really likes the modern layout of the new venue, which is designed to be “future-proof” so it can cope with the changing demands of technology and customer needs.

Out back in the kitchen area, there are three stations where burgers and fried items can be made up, with a window for delivering drive-through orders and an area where delivery drivers can pick up meals.

Ben Sutton, 17, is one of the new recruits at the fast food outlet - he said the chicken nuggets are among his favourite menu items.

He said: “The whole process from getting the job has been really nice. The emphasis is on being a family. Everyone helps each other.”

Plans for the branch off the

A5 have been in the pipeline for several years, being turned down twice over traffic concerns, only to be granted on appeal in 2016.

Ms Lee said: “All we can do is make sure the service is quick in the drive through, so we don’t contribute to the traffic.”

The franchisee also runs branches in Thurmaston and Beaumont Leys, and she formerly ran the Regent Street restaurant, in Hinckley town centre, which closed in 2007.

Ms Lee said in a message to customers: “Come along, give us a go, give us a try.”
