Fairtrade Fortnight celebrated in style in the town
Events were held for Fairtrade before the coronavirus struck
A VARIETY of events have been held in Hinckley and Bosworth to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight.
Activities across the borough included breakfasts, tastings, market stalls and more.
Meanwhile, Petite Chouette
Café Bar on Regent Street in Hinckley, owned by husband and wife Paul and Alison Lancaster, were filmed for a feature on Fairtrade which was broadcast on ITV news in the Midlands.
The establishment uses Fairtrade goods in a number of its drinks and cakes.
During the fortnight, Mathew
Hulbert, chairman of Hinckley and Bosworth Fairtrade Forum, represented campaigners from across the East Midlands at a special reception held at the Houses of Parliament.
A special tasting was also held at the George Ward Centre in Barwell for Mr Hulbert’s 40th birthday, which took place in the fortnight.
Luke Evans, MP for Bosworth, and Hinckley borough and county councillor Michael Mullaney, attended a Fairtrade breakfast at St Catherine’s Church in Burbage.
A special meeting of the forum, which works with the borough council to promote Fairtrade products across the area, was also held at the Hollycroft
Park Community Café in Hinckley.
Mr Hulbert said: “Yet again, it’s been a fantastic Fairtrade Fortnight, with a host of events held across the borough.
“A great opportunity to promote a really important cause.
“By buying products with the Fairtrade mark on it, you get a great product but also the warm feeling of knowing that more of the money you pay for it, a fairer amount, goes to the original farmer, developer or grower in the developing world.”
