Battle centre reopens to public
Exhibition, shop and cafe are welcoming back visitors
BOSWORTH battlefield has relaunched as heritage sites across the county open their doors again.
The award-winning exhibition galleries, shop, 1485 Tithe Barn and public toilets are back in action at the family attraction, following the easing of the coronavirus lockdown.
The Bosworth Exhibition is open Sunday to Wednesday, from 10.30am to 4pm, with last admission at 3pm.
The 1485 Tithe Barn café will be open Saturday to Wednesday, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Councillor Richard Blunt is cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts at Leicestershire County Council.
He said: “We’re delighted that we are now able to reopen our heritage sites and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to enjoy them.
“Our priority is to ensure that the attractions are safe for visitors and staff.
“What remains the same is that we want people to come along and have an enjoyable time with us – as well as staying safe.”
The Battlefield Line railway, between Shackerstone, Market Bosworth and Shenton, also recently relaunched.
Carriages are currently running at half capacity to comply with social distancing, with compartment carriages available for larger family groups.
The trains are being cleaned each time they are turned around at the terminal stations.
Risk assessments had to be done as the attraction prepared to reopen, with the volunteers who run the railway given fresh training.
This year’s Bosworth Medieval Festival, which usually happens at the battlefield site, recently took place online, with history videos, quizzes and competitions.
Also reopening are the 1620s house and gardens at Donington-le-Heath, on Thursday, September 10, with plans to open the tea room from September 17.
The historic site will be open Thursday to Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm.
Melton Carnegie Museum is also to relaunch on Thursday, September 10.
Harborough Museum and Charnwood Museum recently opened their doors again.
Visitors need to pre-book a timed slot for all the sites.
You can book a time to visit Bosworth Battlefield on the group’s website or by calling Hinckley 290429.
