GCSE results picked up at safe intervals for students at town school
Couple of weeks after big day, we catch up with school’s exam scores
STUDENTS at Hinckley Academy have celebrated GCSE success.
Pupils collected their results at timed intervals, with social distancing in place.
Students also received a one-to-one session with a member of specialist staff to offer congratulations and support, and to discuss their future plans.
Celebrating success across the board, student destinations included apprenticeships, pathways within the armed forces and sixth form study, with a very high percentage of students applying to stay and study at the John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre (JC6).
Ms Pathan, interim head of Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre, said: “The GCSE results reflect the journey of improvement that HAJC6 is travelling on.
“Our results have improved in all areas including Progress 8, Attainment 8, strong and standard passes in English and Maths, as well as in the English Baccalaureate.”
Top performer Troy celebrated 11 GCSEs at grade 9-7 and a Distinction in Level 2 Information Technology, and he will be studying A levels at JC6 next year.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to being at JC6, I’m going to study Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Chemistry.”
He added: “All my teachers have been very helpful, putting on lunchtime sessions and intervention sessions after mock exams.
“All their support has definitely helped me, especially to clear up things you don’t understand.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all of my teachers.”
Holly achieved 11 GCSEs at grade 9-6, including 9s in English Literature, English Language, Biology, Geography, Physics and RE.
She is now pursuing her dream of attending medical school by staying on at JC6 to study Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English Language.
She said: “The teachers know me, they know what I am capable of and how to support and push me.
“I am excited to get back to lessons.”
The star pupil added: “I am really proud of my results, but I don’t think I have taken it all in yet.”
Holly’s mum was also thrilled with her results.
She said: “I am very pleased with Holly’s results, the last few weeks have been hard, so it is a big relief.
“I am thrilled for her and can’t thank the school enough for their support over the years, they have been brilliant.”
Students celebrating apprenticeship places included Logan, who said: “I’m happy with my results and will be starting an apprenticeship in bricklaying with Davidson Homes in September.
“It’s what I have always wanted to do.”
Students Amy and Abby are looking forward to staying together as they both move on to study Childcare.
Amy said: “I have made lots of friends during my time at Hinckley Academy and I am now excited for my next step.”
“I’ve always wanted to be a nursery nurse so I am looking forward to doing placements to give me experience working with kids.”
Mia’s results included a 9 in PE.
She had some advice for future Hinckley Academy students.
She said: “Don’t take your time here for granted and work hard as it definitely pays off.”
Mia is staying on at JC6 to study PE, Psychology and Geography, and plans to eventually do a Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
She said: “I have really enjoyed my time at HAJC6, especially PE.
“I was in pretty much every team and enjoyed netball trips to Spain and South Africa which were amazing, they helped me to know for sure that I wanted to continue with PE.
“I have had lots of support from the PE team which has made me decide to stay on at JC6.”
Also planning to study Psychology at JC6 is Shania, who plans to combine this course with Drama and Photography, before moving on to university.
She was still in shock after collecting her results, saying: “I didn’t think I would get this high of a mark! I am most happy with my Maths grade.”
Elliot and Ethan both plan to study Engineering at JC6.
Elliot decided on JC6 due to subject choice and his plans to combine Engineering with Physics and Maths.
Ethan said: “I am happy with my results, especially my grade 8 in Biology.
“I am now coming to JC6 to do Physics, Engineering and BTEC Music.
“I plan to then complete an apprenticeship in computing.”
Ethan’s mum also shared her thoughts on his results.
She said: “I am so, so proud, the last 18 months he’s really got himself together.
“The last few weeks have been hard so I’m really pleased he’s got the grades he needs.
“The school has really helped, especially with the support available for students and parents.”
Ms Pathan said: “I am extremely proud of all our students, the hard work and resilience they have shown has been astounding.
“Everyone at Hinckley Academy wishes them every success in the future.”
