Working to get the economy back on track in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the college aims to help mitigate the effects of recession especially amongst those aged 16-24 who are likely to be hardest hit.
Earlier this year, the Government announced that it would provide employers with financial support including a £2,000 for higher level bonus for employing an apprentice, in addition to the £1,000 incentive already in place for employing an apprentice aged 16-18, and £1,000 for a traineeship. In addition, as part of a new Kickstart Scheme, the government will cover the cost of 25 hours’ work a week at the national minimum wage for young people aged 16-24 claiming Universal Credit.
Katy Urwin, Director for Apprenticeships at NWSLC, said: “Colleges are taking the lead on helping to reenergise the UK economy in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown. We already work with more than 1,000 national, regional, and local businesses across a wide range of sectors including more than 400 organisations operating apprenticeship programmes.
“NWSLC is in a great position to make links between organisations that need skills and individuals looking for work and it is our aim to introduce skilled and work-ready individuals to employers across the region.
“The current level of government support makes the opportunity for employers to grow their own talent even more attractive.”
