‘Even the smallest donation can make such a big impact’

Charity Headway in plea for stock as it helps injury survivors

A CHARITY shop is appealing for support to help restock its shelves as it reopens.

The Headway shop, on Station Road, in Hinckley town centre, is asking for donations of clothing, bric-a-brac, household goods, toys, games, small electrical goods and any other items, as it opens its doors again after the easing of the coronavirus lockdown.

Headway supports people affected by brain injury, and their families.

Shop manager Sarah Benzs said: “We are in need of help from good-spirited local residents who want to make a difference.

“As we rely entirely upon donations, community support is more important than ever to help us continue delivering vital frontline services to brain injury survivors and their families.

“Even the smallest contribution can make a big impact.

“Simply donating unwanted items will make a huge difference to the support we can continue to offer to those affected by brain injury.

“Likewise, we’re always looking to welcome new volunteers to the team and we have lots of opportunities to get involved - whether it’s greeting customers with a friendly smile, sorting through stock or manning the till.”

Brain injury survivor Stewart Gray volunteers at the Hinckley shop twice a week.

He said: “Normality for me before my injury was a full-time job and I think volunteering is the closest thing I’ll ever get to working again, so I’ll continue to do it for as long as I can.

“Volunteering has definitely helped to get my life back on track.

“I know that I’m doing something worthwhile for myself and my recovery, and knowing that I’m helping to support fellow brain injury survivors across the UK at the same time makes it even more rewarding.”

In line with new Covid-19 guidance, the shop has introduced hand sanitising stations, a one-way shopping system and sneeze guards at the till point.

Donations are also being stored for 48 hours before going on sale.

Stock donations will be warmly received at the Headway charity shop, at 6 Station Road, LE10 1AW.
