Fosse Park growing fast

THE £168 million expansion of the Fosse Park shopping centre is taking shape ahead of its planned opening early next year.

Despite a pause in construction caused by the pandemic, work is well under way on the 140,000sq ft extension to the retail complex.

The development is taking place on the site of the former Everard’s brewery, which is relocating across the road to Castle Meadows.

Recently, Fosse Park co-owner The Crown Estate said the development is already two thirds pre-let despite the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

The Perfume Shop, Soho Coffee and Costa Coffee have added their names to companies taking units.

They will join Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group, which is planning an upmarket mega-store, with a wide area dedicated to its Flannels brand, and an esports gaming arena.

The three new names will join Nando’s, KFC, Greggs and EE in a new dining area, which will house up to 13 food units and four stores, linking the old and new sides of the site.

Next, TK Maxx, and Clarks will join Frasers Group in taking some of nine new retail units opening at the Fosse Park West extension.

The redevelopment will increase the shopping centre’s capacity by 40 per cent.

Mike Bell, senior asset manager at The Crown Estate, said: “It is great to welcome three more fantastic brands for the new extension at

Fosse Park, making thirds pre-let.

“We are continuing to work hard on site in order to create an innovative, safe and secure destination to meet the needs of the community now and in the future, and we look forward sharing more exciting news in the coming months.”

The Frasers Group is launching a 90,000 sq ft site at Fosse Park, just south-west of Leicester, which it said will be split between Flannels and Sports Direct.

It will also include Evans Cycles it over twoand an area for computer games events, under the Game brand.

It plans to open the store concept next year, at a cost of more than £15 million. It will create up to 200 jobs.

Debenhams last year pulled out of plans for a store at the site.

The troubled department store chain originally wanted to spend millions on an anchor store.

It had been in talks with Fosse Park’s owners to try to salvage the plans after going into administration in April 2019.
