BUILDING work has started on the first phase of an 850-home scheme in Hinckley.

Diggers have started clearing away land for the first 260 homes of the development, off the A47 perimeter road, near the Triumph plant.

The first raft of properties will include a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties, including 52 affordable homes.

A 315mm diameter sewage main is being installed along Roston Drive and under the perimeter road to service the

estate.

Paul Degg, regional managing director of Bloor Homes Midlands, said previously: “This first phase will see the construction of 260 new homes, along with the provision of a park and other

formal and informal green spaces. This is an exciting development that will create a new community on the outskirts of Hinckley, providing a range of much-needed new housing to cater for a variety of purchasers, from first-time buyers to growing families and downsizers.

The Normandy Way scheme will eventually include up to 850 new homes, retail space, a primary school and new community facilities with sport pitches, parkland, children’s play areas and allotments.

“The new homes have been carefully designed to reflect the character and style of existing properties in Hinckley and the surrounding villages.”

As part of its work on the development, Bloor Homes will be improving footpath and cycle routes along the A47, as well as planting additional trees and hedgerows.

The new development will be served by a main bus route to Hinckley town centre.

Access will be provided via a new roundabout on Normandy Way, just north of the Outlands Drive junction.

Leicestershire County Council is proposing to reduce the speed limit on the A47 between Stoke Road and Roston Drive, from 50mph to 40mph, to accommodate the entrance to the Bloor estate.

Residents of Roston Drive and Outlands Drive were happy to hear about the plans to change the speed limit, as they say there are constant problems with drivers speeding on the A47 and around their estate.
